Standards Based Grading is designed to measure what students know and provide direction to students through feedback. Teachers should begin by knowing their standards well and prioritize them according to a well-designed rubric that emphasizes over-arching goals. Using the prioritized standards, PLCs will write proficiency scales that level the standard and provide baseline essential prior knowledge skills while also offer opportunities for deeper thinking. Finally, artifacts are developed that specifically target the levels outlined in the scales so when a teacher receives a completed artifact back, they know specifically where a student is and how to help them. This session will outline the parts of Standards Based Grading and provide work time for teachers to begin each process with presenters available to assist. All content areas are welcome and a variety of exemplars will be provided in the presentation.
